Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Brighton attacker Leandro Trossard now that the summer transfer window has opened for business.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from Belgian media outlet RTBF (via The Sun), the Magpies and Manchester United are both interested in signing the Brighton star this summer.

The Seagulls signed the Belgian three years ago from Genk in a deal worth a reported £15m. Since then, the 27-year-old has gone on to make 104 appearances for the south coast club across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and delivering 11 assists along the way.

His latest Premier League season with Graham Potter's side has turned out to be his best in terms of his goal contributions.

In 34 league appearances, Trossard found the net eight times and provided three assists, meaning that he was involved in more goals than any of his team-mates.

Last September, the winger's first goal of the season during Brighton's 1-0 win over Brentford was described as "magnificent" by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

Better than Almiron

In terms of a potential move to St. James' Park this summer, one current figure in Eddie Howe's squad on whom the Brighton star could be a potential upgrade is Miguel Almiron.

With 30 league appearances to his name in 2021/22, the Paraguay winger only found the net on one occasion and failed to provide even one assist for his team-mates.

Despite Almiron being a versatile option for the Toon, Trossard has also shown how capable he is of playing in numerous attacking positions and posing a greater goal threat than the 28-year-old.

To further highlight how much more of an attacking danger the Brighton star poses in comparison to his Newcastle counterpart, the Belgian ended the 2021/22 season with more than twice as many shot-creating actions (91) as Almiron (45).

If the Seagulls would be willing to negotiate a deal to sell Trossard, the Magpies should definitely be all over it, as he could be a great asset for Howe's squad in an attacking sense.
