Newcastle United could hire a dream replacement for Steve Bruce in Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic.

What's the story?

While Bruce appears to have inspired the Magpies into some late-season form in the Premier League, it appears that hasn't stopped Mike Ashley from eyeing potential replacements, with the current Newcastle boss having just a year left on his contract.

According to German publication Bild, the Tynesiders are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in potentially hiring Terzic, who took over the reins as interim Dortmund boss after Lucien Favre's dismissal in December.

The 38-year-old has guided Dortmund to a top four finish and qualification to the Champions League, as well as lifting the DFB-Pokal recently.

Dream Bruce replacement

ESPN's Derek Rae has claimed that Terzic 'brings a Klopp-like intensity' to the dugout, whilst Slaven Bilic has previously suggested that the 38-year-old "has everything" needed to become a top manager.

Furthermore, Dortmund's former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat raved about about Terzic to The Times as he said: "(He has a) strong personality, with top-class analytical qualities and tactical understanding, clear about what kind of football his teams are best suited to. By that I mean he is not narrow-minded. He’ll be brave. He’ll make the difficult decisions."

Just as much as the bravery, it's his willingness to get his players playing on the front foot which could have Newcastle fans buzzing at the prospect of seeing him manage the club.

Many of the Dortmund players have taken to the 38-year-old, with Giovanni Reyna hailing him as someone who "lets me be free as an attacker."

Reyna's midfield teammate Mahmoud Dahoud also added to the list of Terzic's admirers, saying that he is a "passionate" and "crazy" manager who "works meticulously" to ensure that his teams play great football.

Klopp has caught everybody's attentions with his manic presence on the touchline, and it appears that Terzic - who worked under the current Liverpool manager in the past - is also cut from the same cloth. Having someone as animated as him in the dugout could resonate with the kind of passionate support that Newcastle fans bring to the table both home and away, and he seems a perfect fit for the Magpies.
