Former Newcastle United player Steve Howey believes Callum Wilson will set a goal target of around 15 this season.

Wilson put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with Newcastle in September 2020, which will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2024.

The 29-year-old has scored 104 goals throughout his career and has provided a further 44 assists for his teammates. So far for the Magpies, Wilson has scored 13 goals and provided five assists, including an opening day goal against West Ham two weeks ago.

Last term, Wilson netted 12 goals in the Premier League, but Howey reckons he will be aiming for around the 15 mark this campaign, exclusively telling Football FanCast: “I think it will be around the 15 mark, I think he’d look to think that looking at anything else would be a very, very good season.”

Newcastle finished last season in 12th place in the Premier League, winning three of their last five matches. Wilson was the leading goal scorer in his debut campaign at St. James' Park and will need to avoid a repeat of the injury problems he suffered last term if he is to improve on his tally of 12 goals in 2020/2021.
