Newcastle United fans didn’t get to enjoy the football this weekend as they were utterly dominated by Brighton at home on Sunday.

The Seagulls raced into a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes, and from there they were absolutely cruising, with the Tyneside outfit rarely threatening the Seagulls’ backline before Brighton added a third late on.

However, as much as Magpies supporters can’t be happy with what they had to watch this weekend, they couldn’t help but admire one opposition player’s performance as Tariq Lamptey put in an incredible display.

The defender was full of energy, bombing up and down the wing, winning a penalty for Brighton’s first, while playing the pass through prior to the cross that set up the second, before coming off in the 57th minute with the score at 2-0.

Newcastle fans won’t have been happy watching the youngster rip their backline to shreds, but they couldn’t help but sound their admiration on social media.

While some admired the job he was doing, others were absolutely stunned by how easily he dealt with Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman was one of the most potent dribblers in the Premier League last term, but against Brighton he couldn’t make anything happen, with almost every attempt shut down by Lamptey.

While United supporters will have been unhappy watching an afternoon of Lamptey having the freedom of St James’ Park, they were absolutely buzzing to see him subbed off in the second half, which is a testament to how well he played.

With the season still in its infancy, Lamptey certainly looks like a young player to keep your eyes on for the remainder of the campaign.
