Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race for Borussia Dortmund sensation, Jude Bellingham, with the England international seemingly destined for an exit from the Bundesliga side this summer.

What's the word?

According to Sport BILD - via Sports Witness - the Magpies are believed to be 'trying to get involved' in the battle to land the highly-coveted teenager, with the report suggesting that staying in Germany is 'no longer an option' for the 19-year-old.

The piece adds that both Liverpool and Real Madrid are also firmly in the mix at present to land the midfielder at the end of the season, although Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are said to have been ruled out as possible destinations by the player himself.

Any move for the former Birmingham City man - whose existing deal is set to run until 2025 - will no doubt require a rather hefty transfer fee, with Sky Sports reporting last week that the 22-cap maestro could be worth as much as €150m (£133m) if he is to depart Westfalenstadion any time soon.

Could be a 'phenomenon' at Newcastle

While the January window has only just closed, it would certainly be no surprise for Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth to already be plotting potential moves this summer, with the centre of midfield seemingly an area that was perhaps neglected last month.

The failure to land a new recruit in the winter window - including Chelsea's Conor Gallagher - could well be eased by turning to the aforementioned Bellingham come the end of the season, with it set to prove a colossal coup if Ashworth can tempt the Stourbridge-born starlet to make the move to St James' Park.

Although much may depend on whether the Tynesiders are able to secure Champions League football this term, the addition of the 6 foot 1 "monster" - as lauded by The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell - would be a further indication of the club's newfound ambition under the PIF regime.

The dynamic "phenomenon" - as described by Marca's Chris Winterburn - would seemingly be a player whom Eddie Howe could build his side around, with the emerging superstar able to offer the benefit of impacting proceedings at both ends of the pitch.

The mature maestro has already provided 42 goal involvements in just 114 games to date during his time in Germany, including a remarkable haul of ten goals and four assists in 24 games across all fronts this term to cement his status as Dortmund's talisman.

Lauded as "incredible" by Magpies legend Alan Shearer amid his stunning form at the World Cup, Bellingham was a leading figure in Qatar for Gareth Southgate's side despite his relative youth, notably averaging 3.2 tackles per game in the competition to illustrate his ball-winning prowess.

A player who can seemingly do everything, the youngster also possesses that innate knack for being able to drive his side forward from deep, showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 3% in Europe for dribbles completed among those in his position.

The elegant machine is a true, all-action, box-to-box presence in the centre of the pitch, with any suitor set to be incredibly fortunate if they can win the race for a talent who could be the heartbeat of a side for years to come.

The hope will be that Ashworth can work his magic and ensure that it is Bellingham who becomes the new poster boy of the Newcastle revolution.
