Newcastle: Brighton attacker Leandro Trossard is “on the radar”

A claim has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in Leandro Trossard ahead of the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed that the Belgian forward is a player the Magpies are looking at as they eye potential reinforcements to bolster their attack.

Would Trossard be a good signing?

Yes

No

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Yeah, they are. He’s someone that is definitely on the radar. Obviously, Dan Ashworth is the man that’s going to need to be convinced over any signing, but I’m told that he is on board with this.”

Trossard is out of contract with Brighton at the end of the season but the Seagulls have an option to extend it by one year, which means that Newcastle may not be able to sign him on a free transfer in 2023.

Imagine him & Alexander Isak

Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe could provide summer signing Isak with a terrific winger to play alongside by snapping up Trossard from Brighton.

The Sweden international has scored twice in his first three appearances for Newcastle and has shown promise as a goalscorer for the club in the long term.

Trossard could come in and excite the supporters alongside Isak as he is a player who has proven himself on a regular basis at Premier League level already. Since the start of last season, he has scored 15 times and provided four assists in 46 appearances, whilst creating at least 1.4 chances per match.

These statistics show that he can offer a goal threat on the wing and that he can set up his teammates for chances with great regularity, which could provide Newcastle’s record signing with the opportunities he needs to consistently find the back of the net.

How many 2021/22 Premier League goals did Newcastle score?

The £42.5k-per-week gem, whose defensive work was once dubbed “outstanding” by Andy Naylor, is also not afraid to put the hard yards in for his team out of possession. He ranks in the 95th and 92nd percentiles among players in his position in Europe’s top five leagues over the last 365 days for interceptions and blocks per 90 respectively.

Therefore, Trossard, who was once described as a “wizard” by journalist Charlie Haffenden, could be a superb signing for Newcastle as he has the quality at both sides of the game to be an effective player for the club.

Just imagine him and Isak lining up for the club in the second half of the season and terrorising opposition defences. It should be a mouth-watering thought for supporters.
