Newcastle have their eye on Chelsea’s Armando Broja

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in Armando Broja in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Dean Jones has confirmed that the Magpies are keeping tabs on the Albania international with a view to making a swoop for him ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “A forward is obviously the next big priority position for them, and Broja is definitely somebody whose situation they’ve got an eye on.”

It has been reported, this month, that a fee in the region of £30m could be enough to tempt the Blues into parting ways with him.

He’d be a big Chris Wood upgrade

Newcastle attempted to strengthen their attack in the January window by signing Chris Wood from fellow Premier League side Burnley.

However, that did not go to plan as the New Zealand international scored one goal from open play – two in total – in 17 league outings for the Magpies, whilst also failing to register any assists.

At the age of 30, it also seems unlikely that he is going to make a vast improvement ahead of the new season as he should already be in the peak years of his career.

In Broja, Newcastle would be signing a player on the up who can be a big upgrade on the former Burnley centre-forward.

The 20-year-old scored six goals in 21 Premier League starts for Southampton last term, with all of them coming from open play. He also scored ten goals in 21 Eredivise starts in 2020/21 on loan at Vitesse, showing – between these two loans – that he has a knack for scoring goals.

How many 2021/22 Premier League goals did Newcastle score?

Albania’s assistant manager Sergio Porrini lauded him last season, saying: “From last year to this he has grown a lot, and at Southampton, he has exploded.

“His greatest qualities are in progression, especially the ball and chain. (He’s) less good, on the other hand, with his back to the goal, in the construction of the action. But, in the spaces, he is devastating!”

These comments suggest that he has huge potential as he has already shown that he has the scope to develop after a first season in England.

Now, imagine what he could be capable of doing with two or three seasons under his belt. He could end up being a major player for the Toon and his statistics from 2021/22 suggest that he would already be an upgrade on Wood at the top end of the pitch.

AND in other news, Newcastle move will be on the mind of £25m “phenomenon”, he’s a huge Shelvey upgrade…
