An update has emerged on Newcastle United's interest in Sevilla gem Diego Carlos...

What's the talk?

According to Marca (via the Daily Express), the Magpies will make another attempt to sign the centre-back in the summer if they avoid relegation.

The report claims that an offer of £45m was turned down in January but only because the LaLiga outfit are in the hunt for the league title, and the Toon are now ready to splash the cash at the end of the season in a bid to land him this time around.

Imagine & Burn

Newcastle must seal a dream deal for Carlos in the summer as he could form an exciting defensive partnership with January's addition Dan Burn.

The former Brighton man made his Magpies debut against Aston Villa on Sunday and was pivotal to his side keeping a clean sheet and picking up the three points. As per SofaScore, he made three clearances, one block and one interception, whilst only losing one individual duel in the entire match.

Including his time with the Seagulls, he has averaged a SofaScore rating of 6.96 in the Premier League this term. This suggests that he is able to consistently deliver impressive performances at this level, which means that he could be a reliable figure for the club to depend on moving forward.

In Carlos, Newcastle could find the ideal partner for him. The Brazilian machine has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.14 in La Liga for Sevilla, winning 63% of his duels and making 3.6 clearances per game.

Spanish football analyst Domagoj Kostanjšak previously heaped praise on the defensive enforcer, saying:

"He's a really physical player - he's built like a tank and they don't call him 'The Beast' for no reason. He's really good in the air and he's decent on the ball as well - you have to be under Julen Lopetegui."

These comments suggest that he could be superb to watch as both of them are physical players who can impose themselves on the opposition. Carlos' statistics also show that he is consistent and able to perform at the top level, much like Burn, and they could form a brick wall at the back for Eddie Howe next season.

This is why PIF must ensure that they are able to convince Sevilla to part ways with the Brazilian in the summer as he could be a terrific addition to the side.

Imagine him and Burn bullying centre-forwards in the Premier League throughout the 2022/23 campaign, where the Magpies will be looking to push on with their lofty ambitions.
