A big Newcastle transfer update has emerged on the club's efforts to bring Brighton giant Dan Burn to Tyneside on deadline day.

What's the talk?

According to Newcastle World reporter Jordan Cronin, the defender has now reached an agreement with the Magpies over a contract to join the club.

He Tweeted: "Personal terms agreed, Dan Burn is set to sign a two-and-a-half year deal with boyhood club #NUFC. Will undergo his medical later this afternoon."

Buzzing

Eddie Howe will surely be buzzing with this news as it will come as a relief to the ex-Cherries coach. It represents a huge step on the way to getting this deal over the line.

The update also shows that the player is keen on making the move happen and is willing to accept what the club are offering him, rather than Nick Hammond and PIF needing to convince him to make the switch in the final hours of deadline day.

This means that they can swiftly complete the transfer and spend more time focussing on other deals that may need attention. If Burn had been unhappy with the terms offered and been difficult to negotiate with then it could have made Newcastle's life far more complicated than it already is and affected talks to sign other players, which is why Howe will be over the moon with this news.

He will also be delighted to read that the £20k-per-week warrior is on the verge of joining as he could be a terrific signing for his side. Not only is he a boyhood Magpies supporter, but he is also a proven Premier League player who could come in and make a difference to the team.

In the top-flight this season, Burn has averaged an excellent SofaScore rating of 6.96 and was dubbed "incredible" by Brighton boss Graham Potter. Meanwhile, no centre-back for Howe's squad has averaged a score higher than 6.77, suggesting that Burn would be a big upgrade on what the head coach currently has to work with.
