Newcastle United are believed to be interested in a move for Brighton and Hove Albion winger, Leandro Trossard, following the Belgian's electric start to the new season.

What's the word?

That's according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie - speaking to GIVEMESPORT - who revealed that the Magpies could well be eyeing a January move for the 27-year-old, albeit with the Seagulls potentially set to be reluctant to sell having already seen defender Dan Burn and sporting director Dan Ashworth poached by PIF this year.

The transfer insider stated: “That’s one I could potentially see happen in January. The issue they’ll have there is the fact that Brighton have done so much business with them already, in the shape of Dan Ashworth and Dan Burn.

“They’ve already plundered Brighton for one big player and a director of football.”

Recent reports have suggested that the northeast side are contemplating a switch in the winter window, with the 21-cap gem set to command a fee of around £30m, albeit with a reunion with former Brighton boss Graham Potter at Chelsea having been mooted.

The in-form marksman is currently facing an uncertain future at the Amex with his existing deal set to expire in just over six months' time, albeit with Roberto De Zerbi and co having the option of a one-year extension.

Completing Howe's attack

Trossard - who is also said to be interesting La Liga giants Atletico Madrid - has warranted such intense interest as a result of his remarkable start to the current Premier League season, having been integral to the south coast side finding themselves in sixth in the table.

The former Genk man - who arrived in England on a £15m deal three years ago - has scored seven goals and provided two assists in just 13 stunning top-flight games so far this season, having become a real "threat" of late, in the words of talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor.

The £42.5k-per-week man is no doubt "thriving" at his current side - according to Statman Dave - having also showcased his creative flair by averaging 1.5 key passes per game, while his average match rating of 7.22, as per SofaScore, is the third-highest among his teammates.

Adding such a talent into the mix at Newcastle could well be what manager Eddie Howe is crying out for, with Trossard having the ability to slot in on the left flank - a position that has been something of a problem area this season.

That role has been taken up by Jacob Murphy of late although the Englishman has scored just once and provided only one assist this season, while teammate Allan Saint-Maximin has yet again been plagued by injury, with the Frenchman only ever reaching five league goals in a single campaign with the Magpies.

The 25-year-old has 12 goals and 16 assists to his name in the top tier since joining from Nice in 2019, while Trossard has scored 25 goals and laid on 13 assists in that time.

The latter man could well be the answer to helping complete Howe's attacking lineup, providing greater balance on the flanks amid the current reliance on the resurgent Miguel Almiron, who has netted eight times in the league this season.

Such an addition when the market re-opens could well help to continue the Tynesiders' push for a Champions League berth.
