Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the Sweden international would delight Toon supporters if the club made a move for him ahead of the 2022/23 campaign as an alternative to Hugo Ekitike.
He told Football FanCast: “Now Isak is a quality player, probably a bit more experienced than Ekitike and a bigger name than Ekitke right now.
“So again, it will be a very exciting signing for Newcastle fans right now. And he’s been linked with Premier League clubs in the past Arsenal – strongly linked with them in the January transfer window.”
As O’Rourke has suggested, Isak would be a signing that would leave supporters feeling excited heading into next season.
Why is this the case? Well, he is a talented and promising young striker who has proven that he can score goals at the top level.
In three La Liga campaigns for Real Sociedad, the 22-year-old has scored 32 goals and provided five assists. Prior to his spell in Spain, he scored a whopping 13 goals in 15 starts on loan in the Eredivise, highlighting the quality he has the potential to provide at the top end of the pitch.
His former teammate, Chinedu Obasi, once heaped praise on him and his scope for development, saying: “Isak has enormous potential. If everything goes well, he could become Sweden’s new Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”
These comments, and his aforementioned statistics, illustrate exactly why he would be a signing to excite the supporters this summer.
At the age of 22, he is still in the early stages of his career and has already gathered plenty of experience scoring goals in a major European league.
The gem has plenty of time left on his hands to grow as a player and live up to the hype, leaving fans buzzing to watch him progress with more game time playing for the Toon – potentially becoming as good as Ibrahimovic – according to his ex-teammate.
He is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £40m and it remains to be seen whether or not the Magpies are willing to stump up that much to sign him.
If they want to excite their fans and add an excellent, young, goalscorer to their squad then PIF must put the money on the table to bring him in.
