An update has emerged on Newcastle’s pursuit of a Director of Football, regarding Leeds’ Victor Orta…
Magpies reporter Liam Kennedy has revealed that he has heard about the Leeds man potentially joining the club to assist Eddie Howe.
When asked about the possibility of the Ellan Road chief arriving on Tyneside, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I would concur on the Orta one. I’ve also heard that myself.”
Whilst Newcastle are reportedly set for talks with Dan Ashworth over the role, PIF are yet to make a final decision as the fans are still awaiting an official appointment. This means that the door may still be open for Orta to make the switch from Yorkshire.
He could be the dream alternative to Ashworth as he has done a fantastic job at Leeds, turning the club around in a remarkable fashion. Orta joined them in 2017 and has overseen the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa, promotion to the Premier League and a top-half finish in the top-flight in just four years.
Former Premier League shot-stopper Paul Robinson previously touted him with a switch to Newcastle whilst praising his work at Elland Road, saying:
“He is proven in his recruitment at both Championship and Premier League level. Victor is very highly regarded. He has done a good job at Leeds.
“It would be a good challenge for him, going to Newcastle. The job at Newcastle has many stages. Right now, it’s about trying to keep them in the Premier League.”
Not only would Orta bring with him a wealth of experience and success from his time with the Whites, but he would provide them with a level of passion that Magpies fans would surely love to see.
Dubbed “irate” by reporter Phil Hay, Leeds director Angus Kinnear also had this to say on his actions last year: “Decorum in the directors’ box has gone out the window in the last few weeks. To be frank, his behaviour’s been a disgrace. But we love him for it.”
That said, Newcastle fans should be buzzing with a Director of Football who is passionate and outwardly displays his emotions towards the team’s performances, good or bad. It could make him personable and more likeable for the fans, giving them something to relate to as they go through the same trials and tribulations throughout the 90 minutes.
This is why he would be a dream alternative to Ashworth as his personality is something that the Toony Army are able to buy into and enjoy, potentially allowing him to make cutthroat decisions with less pushback from the supporters in the future.
