An update has emerged on Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, regarding Newcastle's interest in his services.

What's the talk?

According to 90min, the Magpies have compiled a list of realistic targets for the January transfer window and the Blues man features on it alongside his teammate Ross Barkley.

The report claims that it remains to be seen how viable a move for Loftus-Cheek is given his recent resurgence at Stamford Bridge.

Wijnaldum 2.0

PIF could unearth the next Gini Wijnaldum for Newcastle with a deal for Loftus-Cheek. The Dutchman was on Tyneside for one season and was able to showcase his ability before being sold on for a profit at the end of his debut campaign in English football, joining Liverpool for £24.75m.

Whilst Loftus-Cheek is not new to the Premier League, he could be a player the club are able to invest in. At the age of 25, he should be heading into his peak years and the Magpies could benefit from that by giving him regular game time and the chance to flourish - raising his value and potentially making a sizeable sum of money on him in the future.

Wijnaldum earned his big move by scoring 11 goals and five assists in the top-flight for Newcastle in midfield and Loftus-Cheek's form for Chelsea in the past suggests that he has the potential to produce similar numbers.

In his last full season for the Blues, the 25-year-old produced 10 goals and five assists in 14 starts in the Premier League and Europa League combined. This shows that he could be Newcastle's next goalscoring midfield sensation, which is why PIF must get a deal done in January.

Last season, former Fulham boss Scott Parker claimed that the English colossus was unplayable at times in the Premier League. He said:

“His self-belief is right there, his self-belief has to be there, he’s playing in the best league in the world and at times is unplayable in the best league in the world against teams and against players who are world-class.

“Ruben is going up against those players and really showing his quality, so for sure his self-belief is there.

“You look at his career and other than the period at Palace there hasn’t really been a sustained period (of first-team action), he was at Chelsea for a long time, probably had a few bit-parts, never really had a consistent run of games so I think that’s helped as well."

These quotes from Parker aid the theory that Loftus-Cheek could burst onto the scene and fulfil his potential if he is given regular game time and a new home at St. James' Park. Therefore, he could be a worthwhile investment for the Magpies to make in the next transfer window.
