An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in Chelsea maestro Mason Mount.

What's the talk?

According to The Sun, the Magpies are one of the clubs showing an interest in signing the England international this summer.

The report claims that Manchester City and Liverpool are also eyeing up the midfield gem, who is not believed to be one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge due to his rise through the academy set-up - currently earning £70k-per-week.

He has two years left to run on his current contract and Chelsea are unable to offer him fresh terms at this moment in time because of the sanctions imposed upon them in their search for new ownership. This has left them fearing that Mount may be snapped up this summer, with the Toon being one of the clubs in the running to land him.

St. James' Park would be rocking

Newcastle can get the stadium rocking with a deal to sign the Englishman this year as he is a top-quality Premier League forward with the potential to get even better.

In the top-flight this season, Mount has averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.37 across 29 outings in the division. He has produced an outstanding ten goals and nine assists in those games as he has been able to deliver consistent end product in terms of both his finishing and his passing in the final third. All of that is shown in the impressive 29 strikes he's totalled throughout his Chelsea career.

Former Chelsea and England winger Joe Cole once showered him with praise. The retired attacker said: "He’s got that little bit of magic, and he was a threat. Even when there was nothing in the game he was looking to probe. The reason why footballers love him so much is because he does everything right."

PSG forward Lionel Messi has also previously weighed in with his thoughts on Mount, saying: "Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best."

This quote from the iconic Argentinian shows how highly rated the young midfielder is and why he would be a sensational signing for the club.

It highlights the vast potential Mount has to fulfil in the years to come. He would be a signing for now and for the future as he has many seasons left ahead of him to improve and hone his skills, at the age of 23, and Howe would surely enjoy helping him to develop on the training pitch.

St. James' Park would be rocking with excitement with the signing of the Chelsea star because of what he can bring to Newcastle in the immediate future and what he has the scope to do in the long-term.
