Newcastle: Nicolas Pepe tipped to consider Magpies move

An update has emerged on Newcastle and their chances of landing Nicolas Pepe in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that the winger would be keen on a switch to St. James’ Park in the coming weeks because of the club’s ambitions.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that midtable clubs are interested in him, but I don’t think he’s interested in playing at that level of the Premier League, although Newcastle would interest him because they’re going to challenge for the top six.”

It has been reported that Arsenal want a fee in the region of £25m for the attacker, although it remains to be seen whether or not the Magpies are willing to meet their demands.

Imagine him & Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle must snap up a deal to sign the Ivorian in the coming weeks because he has the potential to form an exciting partnership with Saint-Maximin on the wings.

Both players are capable of playing on either side of the attack and they are both tricky attackers with the quality to beat opposition defenders with the ball at their feet.

In his first campaign in the Premier League in 2019/20, Pepe completed 2.3 dribbles per match as he chipped in with five goals and six assists. This came after he racked up 22 goals and 11 assists – completing 2.7 dribbles per game – in his last Ligue 1 campaign for Lille.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig previously heaped praise on the wizard, Tweeting: “Incredible composure on the ball, dribbling skills, technique and vision. He has it all to become a world-class winger. Nicolas Pépé is an amazing player. Would be a great signing for any top club.”

Saint-Maximin, meanwhile, completed 4.3 dribbles per appearance in the Premier League last term, highlighting his immense ability with the ball at his feet as he is able to glide past the opposition on a regular basis.

The gem also made an impact in the final third with five goals and five assists, which shows that he has the potential to be a match winner on his day.

Both Pepe and the Frenchman have the quality to make things happen at the top end of the pitch, whether that is by taking the ball past players or chipping in with goal contributions. Now, imagine both of them lining up in a Newcastle XI next campaign and exciting fans with their direct and skilful, play.
