A major update has emerged regarding Newcastle United and their interest in Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen...

What's the talk?

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported, via The Chronicle, that PIF are preparing to make a new bid for the attacker in the summer after failing to land him in the January transfer window.

The report claims that the Serie A outfit want a fee in the region of €100m (£83.7m) for the Nigeria international, which would be a club-record outlay for the Toon. However, it remains to be seen how much the Magpies are willing to offer for him.

Star power

Osimhen looks set to become a star of European football based on his performances for the Azzurri this season, so the Magpies must pounce on him whilst he is on the way up.

He has found the back of the net 11 times in 17 Serie A matches this term, whilst also scoring four goals in three Europa League starts. This comes after he scored 10 goals in 16 league starts for Napoli in the 2020/21 campaign, showing that he has proven he can find the net on a regular basis at the top level.

The predator has an impressive goalscoring record and still has plenty of years left ahead of him to develop his game even further.

Whilst in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, his then-manager Andries Jonker tipped Osimhen for big things, saying: "He has great potential in him. He is ambitious, quick and highly unpredictable, he will be a star in the future if he maintains his focus."

At the age of 23, he has room to grow as a player and reach the next level to become a superstar striker. He is already scoring goals at an excellent rate for Napoli, and he could end up firing them in on an even more consistent basis and reaching the very top level in his position if he can fulfil his potential.

Whilst it is not guaranteed to happen, his statistics for Napoli and his age suggests that it is a real possibility that he becomes a star. He has already hit dizzy goalscoring heights at a young age, and that is why PIF must make sure that their bid is inviting enough to convince the Italian club to part ways with him.

Eddie Howe would surely love to have such a promising young talent in his squad and Newcastle would be able to benefit from his quality for many years to come.
