Newcastle: PIF can find their own Aguero in Valentin Castellanos

PIF have been very busy in the summer transfer window so far for Newcastle United with three incoming signings to date.

Matt Targett, Sven Botman, and Nick Pope have all come through the door on permanent deals and it remains to be seen whether or not they will be the last of the club’s business.

One player who has been linked with a switch to St. James’ Park this summer is prolific New York City FC centre-forward Valentin Castellanos, with the Magpies one of the teams eyeing him up.

It has been reported that it would take a fee in the region of $15m (£13m) for the MLS side to consider parting ways with him.

PIF’s own talisman

The City Football Group took Manchester City to the pinnacle of English football in 2012 when they led the club to their first Premier League title. Sheikh Mansour backed Roberto Mancini in the market and one of the deals that played a huge part in their success was the signing of Sergio Aguero.

He joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and went on to score 259 goals – including the famous title-winning goal against QPR in 2012 – as he won five top-flight titles for City before leaving last year.

PIF must now sign Castellano as he can be their own Argentine talisman to lead them to glory – in their own right – in the Premier League in the years to come.

The 23-year-old has been a phenomenon in the MLS in recent years and has shown that he has the potential to be a prolific scorer in England.

How many 2021/22 Premier League goals did Newcastle score?

He has been dubbed “exceptional” by journalist Conor McGilligan and his statistics back that up. In the 2022 season, he has scored 12 goals and provided 1.9 key passes per game in 15 appearances, averaging a terrific SofaScore rating of 7.42.

This comes after he found the back of the net 22 times and set up eight for his teammates in 35 outings in the 2021 MLS campaign, showing that he has the quality to make a huge impact in the final third.

If he can carry that form over to the Premier League then he would be an Aguero-esque player for the Magpies – capable of scoring decisive goals to help the team achieve their targets, whether that is winning the title or securing European football.

At the age of 23, he has plenty of time left ahead of him to play for Newcastle for a number of years and leave behind an impressive legacy, much like his fellow countryman did at The Etihad.
