Newcastle interested in Viktor Tsygankov

Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Dynamo Kyiv forward Viktor Tsygankov, ahead of a potential January swoop.

What’s the word?

According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux, the Magpies are said to be one of a handful of Premier League clubs – alongside West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers – who are ‘keeping an eye’ on the 24-year-old at present.

The report suggests that the Ukraine international could potentially be available for a cut-price fee with his current deal set to expire in June 2023, with that fact ensuring that he ‘isn’t lacking suitors’ at present.

Imagine him and Saint-Maximin

The £22.5m-rated gem has seemingly warranted such interest as a result of his sparkling form to date at his current side, having netted 87 goals and laid on 60 assists in just 219 games since making his debut back in 2016.

That “outrageous” record – as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig – includes a haul of two goals and two assists in just six games in all competitions so far this term, having notably scored in a 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce in the Europa League last week.

The 40-cap menace could well solve something of a problem position at St James’ Park, with manager Eddie Howe currently lacking a real quality, out-and-out winger to line up on the right flank, having deployed playmaker Miguel Almiron in that role of late.

Should Newcastle sign Tsygankov?

Adding Tsygankov to the ranks could well see the Tynesiders able to offer a real potent attacking threat from either flank, with talisman Allan Saint-Maximin largely carrying the creative burden for the club at present on the left side.

The fleet-footed Frenchman led the way in the Newcastle squad with regards to goal involvements last term, having recorded five goals and five assists in all competitions, while he has since laid on three goal contributions in just four league games so far this season.

The dynamic forward has so often been the man to make the difference in the final third for the northeast side since his £16.5m arrival from Nice three years ago, with it no doubt set to be a real bonus to add in a figure such as Tsygankov who can also wreak havoc in attack.

Although Magpies sporting director Dan Ashworth will have to fend off vast rival interest if the club are to have any hope of securing his signature, his addition could well provide some much-needed balance to Howe’s current forward line.
