Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos and now a new update has emerged giving them a boost in their pursuit of the player.

What's the latest?

According to Spanish news outlet SPORT, Barcelona have postponed their interest in signing Santos until summer 2023 due to financial concerns giving Newcastle the freedom to snap up the player's services.

As per the report, it is claimed that the Magpies are pushing hard to get a deal done for Santos and money will not be a problem in their efforts to sign the player when the opportunity arises.

Howe could land his own Busquets

It has been reported that the club are keen to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window and there is no doubt that Santos would be a major coup for the future at St James' Park if they can secure his signature in the coming months ahead.

Over 33 league appearances in the Brasileiro Serie B, the 18-year-old rising star has scored eight goals, created four big chances, completed 50% of his dribbles and tallied up an 85% pass completion rate in his own half, as well as averaging 2.9 tackles and a whopping 9.2 duels won per game, proving that he is a very complete midfielder.

Not only that, the teenage sensation has already been nicknamed the 'Brazilian Busquets' in his native country, which is a fair comparison when considering Santos' passing ability and the press resistance that the youngster has displayed over his first full season of professional football whilst also offering a huge attacking threat himself that clearly troubles opponents.

The Brazil U20's star, who could cost in excess of £26m,  has been the recipient of high praise over his short career so far with Juninho Pernambucano hailing Santos a "monster" in an interview:

“Physically, he is a monster. Without the ball, his participation in the game is total.

“I wanted to see his GPS because he doesn’t stop. And technically, he’s way above the others.

“He’s not going to be better than me, he’s going to be much better than me."

With that being said, the signing of Santos would be a great prospect for Newcastle in their efforts to dominate in the Premier League and compete in Europe in the future.
