Newcastle: Ben Jacobs reveals Jack Harrison transfer update

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Jack Harrison this summer, and a reliable source has now given an update on the club’s pursuit of the player.

What’s the latest?

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, the Magpies remain interested in signing the Leeds United winger ahead of next season.

Jacobs tweeted: “Told #NUFC will go back to Leeds with improved offer for Jack Harrison. Jesse Marsch really doesn’t want to lose him. #LUFC can be tough negotiators now that Raphinha & Kalvin Phillips sold. Around £35m is the price tag to make Leeds even consider a sale & they may demand more.”

Supporters will love it

Eddie Howe will be keen to strengthen his front line this summer after a lack of goals from Newcastle’s forward players over last season in the Premier League, and Harrison could be the perfect solution to improve that.

Callum Wilson was the top scorer for the Magpies last term with eight goals over 18 appearances, and no other player scored more than five, so it’s an urgent issue which needs to be addressed if Newcastle want to climb the table and compete for a top-half finish.

As a result, the powers at St James’ Park have work to do to identify a player who can offer consistent goal contributions and improve the creativity in Howe’s forward line next season, with Harrison clearly a player that PIF admire

Over 35 appearances for Leeds in 2021/22, the 25-year-old scored eight goals, delivered one assist and created three big chances. He made 1.2 key passes and 1.6 tackles and won 4.4 duels per game, ranking third for crosses completed (120) in the Premier League.

Despite a difficult season for Leeds, who suffered a huge injury crisis and became embroiled in a relegation battle, it didn’t stop Harrison from drawing high praise for his performances.

Everton manager Frank Lampard labelled his former New York City FC team-mate “one of the best” on Sky Sports (5:25pm, February 12, 2022) following the Toffees; clash with the West Yorkshire club last season.

With that in mind, it could be a great signing for Newcastle if they can agree a deal with Leeds for Harrison, as Howe will be keen to get his squad fully assembled and prepared for the Premier League season ahead.
