David Ornstein has dropped a major transfer claim involving Newcastle United live on Sky Sports this morning...

What's the story?

Speaking live on Sky Sports at 8:01am during a discussion with fellow journalists, he said: "They've done a lot of business so far, have got plenty of irons in many fires and there's a very good chance they will do some more today.

"I think they've recruited very well, and have shown more potential than what they had before Eddie Howe arrived. I think they will do more today, Dan Burn, they're pressing for one or two more I'm sure."

Fans will love it

Eddie Howe's side understandably are making big moves in the transfer market considering their position in the Premier League is very much under threat this season.

Whether it was going forward or back towards their own goal, the Magpies have struggled in both departments considerably this campaign - in fact, only Norwich and Burnley have scored less than them, while only the Canaries have let in more.

To thus get in both Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood over the line in recent weeks - both with considerable Premier League experience to their name - is a major coup that helps strengthen both their defence and attack, while Bruno Guimaraes' arrival recently has just added to that extra bit of spine through the team.

Ornstein's claim that the club are continuing to press for one or two more on transfer deadline day is exactly the kind of news Newcastle fans will love.

It points to a real proactive nature from PIF and Howe, rather than just sitting back and letting opportunities slip them by.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the Magpies' owners' willingness to go all guns blazing in this final week of the transfer window is a testament to their desire to help secure Newcastle's safety in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are back in for this striker...
