Newcastle United: Keith Downie drops transfer update

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has dropped an exciting transfer update on Newcastle United on deadline day…

What’s the story?

The Magpies have been one of the busier clubs in the Premier League this month, and it’s all set up for a very exciting final day of the January transfer window if reports are to be believed.

How many signings do Newcastle need today?

5 or more

5 or more

Having secured the signing of Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes recently, Downie has now claimed on Monday morning that the Magpies are looking at another two players – outside of Dan Burn’s potential arrival at St James’ Park.

He said: “Newcastle are in the market for two more players today, on top of Dan Burn. Expecting a busy day on Tyneside whether they manage to land their targets or not.”

Newcastle fans surely excited

After getting off to a slow start in the first week or so of the transfer window, Newcastle and PIF have really ramped up their business in these final couple of weeks, first getting Kieran Trippier through the door and then sealing the signing of Chris Wood.

Can you beat this impossible Newcastle United quiz?! Starting off easy...

With the Magpies’ precarious situation in the Premier League certainly under the microscope heading into the second-half of the campaign, it was imperative that the club’s new owners really pushed the boat out for survival this month.

And boy have they done just that.

The deal for Guimaraes is certainly the most high-profile of the three that they have signed thus far, but Downie’s claim that the club are still interested in bringing in another two players on deadline day, as well as Dan Burn, bodes for a very exciting finish to the window.

Magpies fans will surely be watching events unfold with much greater optimism and excitement than they previously would have done.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are back in for this man…
