Newcastle United could potentially further strengthen their incredibly in-form squad at St James' Park and now a new update has emerged on a potential new transfer target.

What's the latest?

According to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, Newcastle are eyeing a swoop for Napoli winger Hirving Lozano.

As per the report, Lozano could be ready to move away from the Serie A in the summer of 2023, as contract talks remain in the air with Newcastle joined in their interest of the player by Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Howe could land his very own Martinelli

Newcastle have been flying high in the top flight and are comfortably competing for a spot inside the top four at present with a great chance to secure Champions League football next season well ahead of schedule in their project.

The Magpies are third in the Premier League with just one defeat tallied over their first 18 outings and securing European football next season could be the perfect opportunity to attract top talent to continue to build on their rapid progression.

Lozano could be a great asset in Eddie Howe's development of the attacking threat at St James' Park which is clearly something the manager is keen to bolster with Allan Saint-Maximin's consistent injury struggles since arriving at the club.

Over 15 Serie A appearances this season, the €42m (£37m) Mexico international - who was hailed a "sensation" by journalist Bolarinwa Olajide - has scored three goals, registered three assists and has successfully completed 50% of his dribbles, as well as averaging 1.1 key passes, 1.8 shots on goal and 2.7 duels won per game.

Howe could even land his very own Martinelli as the Arsenal star has been named as one of the most comparable players to Lozano over the last 12 months, according to FBref.

The pair have shared many similarities in their output this season so far including assists (3 v 2), pass completion rate (71.8% v 73%), goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (0.73 v 0.68), shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (3.87 v 4.04) and successfully completed dribbles (44.4% v 45.5%).

With that being said, the signing of Lozano would be a great piece of business in the summer for Newcastle and the winger could be exactly what they need to take their team to the next level in 2023.
