Newcastle United will be hoping they can continue to snap up top talent after landing the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak this year and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on a potential January transfer target.

What's the latest?

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Newcastle could "potentially" sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Downie told GIVEMESPORT:

"That’s one that you could see potentially happening at some stage, but there’s going to be some of Europe’s top clubs looking at him as well, so it won’t be easy."

Imagine him & Wilson

Eddie Howe will be delighted with how his team have taken on their Premier League campaign so far as they are currently third in the league table after only suffering one defeat in their first 15 fixtures so far.

Newcastle have taken points from every single game apart from their controversial clash with Liverpool which saw Jurgen Klopp's side steal a last minute winner and now the Magpies manager will be working hard to continue their phenomenal form when the team returns to action in the second half of the season.

Adding depth and strengthening particular positions in the January transfer window could be the linchpin in securing not only European football next season but also a competitive run in domestic competitions with Newcastle very much still in contention to win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

As a result, the signing of Mudryk could be a huge boost for the forward line to inspire even more creativity in the attacking threat and providing support for star striker Callum Wilson.

Just like Newcastle, the Ukrainian left winger has been in fine form over the season so far scoring 10 goals and registering eight assists over 18 appearances in all competitions, with a goal contribution every 79 minutes which is an extremely impressive output for the 21-year-old.

Not only that, Mudryk ranks in the top 4% of his positional peers across Europe for non-penalty goals, assists, dribbles completed and touches, as well as ranking in the top 8% for progressive passes received, proving that he is one of the top performers in front of goal over the last 12 months.

Combining the young winger's talent and creativity in the forward line with Wilson's eye for goal could be explosive for Newcastle and the pair could form the perfect strike partnership that gives Newcastle the final push to secure a top-four finish and Champions League spot next season.

The £86m-valued  gem - who was hailed a "very special talent" by broadcaster Joe Flemons - has caught the eye of many Premier League clubs with Manchester City and Arsenal both revealed as interested parties.

With that being said, Newcastle will need to make a tempting offer to secure the services of Mudryk over other elite clubs, however, there is no doubt that he could be a valuable asset for Howe in the second half of the season.
