Newcastle United are tracking three players from Chelsea this month in Conor Gallagher, Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with reporter Fabrizio Romano offering some insight into the recent reports.

What's the latest?

Amid their sensational start to the 2022/23 campaign, it has been an extremely quiet start to the winter transfer window with the Toon yet to see any new faces come through the doors.

Eddie Howe's side have been linked to the likes of Real Valladolid's young right-back, Ivan Fresneda, but there does not seem to be a deal close at the moment.

And there were recent suggestions that Newcastle were looking inside the Premier League at potentially taking some players from one of the 'big six'.

Speaking on the House of Champions YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed this is true and Newcastle are looking to raid Chelsea of some of their stars:

"It's true that they are keeping an eye on the Chelsea situation. All these names you mentioned are players appreciated by Newcastle.

"Of course, they're not going for all of them. But Conor Gallagher is a player that really wanted in the summer, and so he's always been on Newcastle's list.

"Also to mention other players like Ziyech, they are waiting to understand if Chelsea will allow the player to leave maybe on good conditions after signing Mudryk. So they're keeping an eye on the Chelsea situation to understand if there will be some opportunities - this is correct."

Triple threat?

It has recently been reported that a move for Gallagher would be unlikely this month with the player keen to remain at Stamford Bridge and prove himself under Graham Potter.

The 22-year-old has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, however, only eight of those have come from the starting XI (via Transfermarkt).

And across the last five games in the top flight, the Englishman has only been able to rack up 148 minutes of action under Potter.

Although it seems Gallagher is wanting to at least give it until the end of the campaign, we do wonder whether this could be one Newcastle may return to in the summer if his game time does not improve.

Loftus-Cheek has actually played fairly regularly for the Blues this season with 12 starts to his name in the Premier League thus far (via Transfermarkt).

So the chances of being able to prise him away from Stamford Bridge does feel unlikely but he could provide a great addition for Howe with his versatility of being able to play at right-back and in midfield.

And as for Ziyech, this is a player who Potter seemingly does not have in his plans in west London with the Moroccan making just three Premier League appearances this season.

But he did show what he is capable of during the Qatar World Cup where he started all seven games of Morroco's journey and provided a goal and an assist along the way.

However, the big question remains whether the Blues would be willing to allow any of these players to leave to a club who is currently occupying one of the top four spots they will be hoping to land for themselves by the end of the season.
