An update has emerged regarding Newcastle’s interest in Serie A centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic.
The report claimed that the Italian club are looking for a fee in the region of £59m (€70m), with Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also said to be keen.
PIF could land a new goalscoring sensation for Newcastle by securing a deal for Vlahovic for £59m either in January or next summer. They could find Demba Ba 2.0 for the Magpies by signing the Serbian, who has shown signs that he could be a terrific goalscorer at a top level.
Ba scored 29 goals in 58 games for Newcastle, with all 29 coming in two Premier League campaigns for the club, providing seven assists along the way. The 6 foot 2 forward was a sensational player for the Magpies in the early 2010s and Vlahovic, who is also 6 foot 2, could arrive on Tyneside and produce a similar level of quality.
The Serbia international has scored 25 league goals in 45 Serie A matches since the start of last season, with four goals in eight games this term. At the age of 21, he also has the potential to improve even further and become a greater goalscorer as he develops.
Serie A expert Connor Clancy previously hailed him as a complete number nine, lauding him as ‘incredible’. He told This is Futbol: “[He’s] Incredible, and it really caught me by surprise because I’d seen him play in the flesh a few times and he scored a great goal against Inter and there was a lot of hype in Florence about him. People were saying this guy’s the real deal and I just couldn’t see it.
“He’s just a complete number nine and I know it’s just off the back of one season, but he’s strong, can link play up, can hold the ball up and most importantly, he’s scoring goals. He’s one of those players that when he looks confident, you almost expect him to score every time he plays.”
These quotes and his statistics show how the Fiorentina beast could be Newcastle’s new Demba Ba and highlight why PIF must ensure that they are able to get a deal over the line for him within the next 12 months. Vlahovic could be a sublime signing for the club and help propel them up the Premier League table with his goalscoring exploits.
