You don’t want to miss it!
It is pretty safe to say that Norwich City haven’t really been the biggest spenders in the Premier League and not much has changed on that front in recent years. Just the fact that their record-breaking signing happened back in 2015/16 is telling enough.
And what’s even more interesting is that both of their most expensive purchases have arrived during the January transfer window in 2016. First, Timm Klose arrived from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of £9.9m and then Steven Naismith followed suit in a matter of days, and funnily enough, with the same £9.9m price tag, only he was bought from Everton instead.
Of course, Klose is still at the club while Naismith was subsequently transferred to Hearts on a free, following a loan deal to the same club prior to that. Still, even if their purchases were not that impressive, especially when taking into account that their 2019/20 transfer of Sam McCallum could only become their 13th most expensive one, their sales have been more than just decent.
James Maddison was sold to Leicester City in 2018/19 for a reported fee of £22.5m and that figure still remains their most lucrative piece of business to date. The young midfielder is then followed by Robbie Brady’s £13.5m switch to Burnley that happened in 2016/17.
Even though they haven’t really been spending the big bucks on some of the most popular names in the business, the Canaries can still boast with a couple of icons who have donned their colours over the years.
Of course, both Klose and Naismith, their two record signings, ruffled a few feathers upon their arrival but neither has entered the hall of fame for their incredible performances. But we simply have to mention the likes of Grant Holt, who won the Norwich City Player of the Year award in three consecutive seasons, helping them to back-to-back promotions along the way and even becoming one of their best goalscorers in the history of the club.
And then we have the likes of Wesley Hoolahan, Steve Bruce, Martin Peters and many, many more as Norwich have certainly had their fair share of icons who were a big part of their history and remain as one of the most influential transfers to ever happen at the club.
