In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Marlon Harewood, who made 135 appearances for Nottingham Forest, has praised Chris Hughton’s man-management skills since he became manager at the City Ground.
Hughton had been out of management since he got sacked by Brighton in 2019 but looks to have guided Nottingham Forest to safety in the Championship, as they currently have a 10-point gap between themselves and the bottom three.
This is now Hughton’s fifth job as a manager after starting his career with Newcastle United back in 2009 when they were in the Championship, winning the title with 103 points in the process.
Speaking on what has impressed him the most about Chris Hughton and how he was as a manager during his time at Newcastle, Harewood told FFC:
“Just his man-management skills off the field really. When he was at Newcastle and they had just got relegated it was hard for him at first.
“He seems to have just got the team to gel together and start working harder like he did when we went up with Newcastle, which is a massive achievement for a manager like Chris.”
Chris Hughton has a rebuilding job on his hands at Nottingham Forest this summer as there are currently six players on loan at Forest who will be returning to their parent clubs at the end of the season.
During his time at Newcastle, Hughton had to manage players such as Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Nile Ranger which will have helped him develop his man-management skills.
