Nottingham Forest took a point to add to their tally on the Premier League table against Brighton last night, but there is certainly still room for improvement for Steve Cooper's men despite the positive result.

The 0-0 stalemate taken away from the AMEX Stadium on Tuesday night will give a glimmer of hope to the supporters and the manager after climbing off the very bottom of the table, but they will need to wait until Leicester City play against Leeds United tomorrow night before they can take a positive from the result.

Despite having just 30% possession, no shots on target and no big chances throughout the game, Nottingham Forest can take some solace in their improved defensive play with goalkeeper Dean Henderson putting on an impressive performance, making seven saves with six of those made inside the box.

Indeed, there is clear confidence and growing strength in the way the side defends throughout their performances, conceding just two goals in their last three fixtures. However, the attacking threat could not be more concerning as the Premier League season rolls on and games pass by.

Neco Williams was deployed at left-back last night following the injuries to Renan Lodi and Omar Richards, but the Welshman was for the most part uninspiring, losing 55% of his duels, taking fewer touches than Henderson and failing to complete any of his crosses (0/2).

But it wasn't just the 21-year-old who allowed opportunities to pass him by throughout the game, with Jesse Lingard the main culprit yet again as he showed a minimal amount of effort or ambition to take the team to the level they desperately need to retain their top-flight status at the end of the season.

The former Manchester United attacker had his "most anonymous" performance yet against Brighton - in the words of journalist Will Unwin - with just 16 touches of the ball which was a whopping 44 fewer than Henderson between the sticks. He also made just 11 passes throughout his 86-minute appearance, letting down Cooper yet again.

Lingard, who is the highest-paid player at the club right now picking up £200k-per-week, lost 100% of his duels (0/1), made no crosses, no key passes, no dribble attempts, no shots on or off target and failed to make a single interception or tackle throughout the game.

It's safe to say that the 30-year-old's performances so far this season lack any sort of attacking threat or creativity, something Forest are simply crying out for.

With that being said, Cooper should instead be investing his time in and giving opportunities to players who show passion, ambition and the right work ethic that will match the intentions of the newly-promoted club as they seek to stay in the division.
