Nottingham Forest must unleash Jesse Lingard vs Leicester City

Nottingham Forest haven’t had the fairytale start to their long-awaited return to the Premier League, but after an extended break Steve Cooper will be hoping his team can have a fresh start to start picking up some points.

The Tricky Trees will take on Leicester City who are coincidentally the only team below them in the league table right now, and a win over Brendan Rodgers’ struggling side could push Forest out of the relegation zone on Monday night.

Who did Forest sign Stan Collymore from in 1993?

As a result, deploying his best players in the team tomorrow evening is essential and with Morgan Gibbs-White potentially an injury concern for the clash at the King Power Stadium, Cooper must unleash former Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard for more reasons than one.

Lingard hasn’t had the best start to life at The City Ground, struggling to make his presence known in his attacking role in the team. However, this could be about to change as the talented 29-year-old who was hailed “unique” by Michael Carrick has an impeccable record against the Foxes.

In the ten appearances the Forest star has made against Leicester City he has won seven, drawn two and lost one, as well as scoring an impressive five goals and delivering three assists when he has come up against them.

His most recent goals against them came from a brace scored for West Ham United whilst he was on loan at the London Stadium during the 2021/2022 season, and his record against the Foxes must not be ignored by the Forest boss.

Lingard is yet to deliver a single goal or assist since his move from Manchester United but there is no doubt that his Premier League experience and ability can be useful to Forest over the season ahead, and this game, in particular, could spark the first of many goal contributions he could deliver.

With that being said, there is no doubt that Cooper must start Lingard against Leicester on Monday evening as it could give Forest one of their best chances to take all three points away from home, and a great opportunity to finally climb out of relegation trouble.
