Nottingham Forest team news & predicted XI vs Bournemouth

Nottingham Forest will host one of their fellow newly-promoted Premier League teams this afternoon at The City Ground this afternoon, with Bournemouth coming to town.

Steve Cooper will be hoping that his new-look team can take points from the Cherries now that they are in the Premier League, after losing to them twice in the Championship last season.

The Tricky Trees go into this game off the back of a 6-0 loss to Manchester City earlier in the week, so it won’t be surprising to see the Welsh manager shake things up as he is not short of options after signing 21 new players over the summer.

In terms of injuries, Omar Richards and Moussa Niakhate remain unavailable for selection, although Cooper did give a glimpse of hope for Orel Mangala to return in an update this week on his hamstring injury:

“It’s not serious, it is a hamstring injury. It’s still a bit inconclusive of when he will come back, but it is more days and weeks, rather than any longer than that. We will see where we’re at at the end of the week with it. The sooner he can be back available, the better for us.”

Stan Collymore - Nottingham Forest

Who did Forest sign Stan Collymore from in 1993?

With all this considered, this is how we at Football Fancast expect Nottingham Forest to line up against Bournemouth this afternoon…

We expect to see four changes to the team that suffered a disappointing defeat to the Premier League champions when Forest take on Gary O’Neil’s side in the 3pm kick-off.

The first change we predict is Steve Cook returning to the back three, although the club signed Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Willy Boly on deadline-day it might be too soon for him to start, so Cooper could decide to stick with a more experienced back-line of Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Cook.

We expect Harry Toffolo to reprise his role in the left wing-back position alongside his former Huddersfield Town team-mate Lewis O’Brien, Remo Freuler in midfield and Neco Williams on the right.

In terms of the attacking threat, Cooper could shake things up after the forward three failed to find a single goal against Man City, so we predict that Morgan Gibbs-White will lose his spot.

The 22-year-old ace who was hailed “unreal” by Greg Halford only managed 58 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s side before Cooper hooked him early into the second half, and Jesse Lingard could make his return to bring some great Premier League experience into the team.

The former Manchester United star who was dubbed “infectious” by Andy Cole, could add the quality needed to give Forest the edge over their former Championship opponents, and, with 74 career goals, there is no doubt that there is a great chance for him to find the back of the net over his positional peers.

Should Lingard start against Bournemouth?

Cooper will be hoping that the club have done enough to improve their team this summer to deliver a victory in front of the home supporters at The City Ground today, and another three points on the board would be huge for Forest.
