Nottingham Forest in talks for Che Adams

Nottingham Forest are reportedly in discussions to sign Southampton forward Che Adams, although are set to face competition for his signature.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the newly-promoted side have ‘opened talks’ regarding a potential deal for the Scotland international, with Forest boss Steve Cooper keen to add the club’s 12 summer signings made thus far.

The 26-year-old – who has just two years remaining on his existing deal at St Mary’s – is also said to be the subject of interest from fellow Premier League side Leeds United, with further reports suggesting that he could command a fee of around £15m.

A move for a new centre-forward is clearly a priority for the Midlands outfit this summer, despite already landing Taiwo Awoniyi, amid reports that they are also eyeing a deal for Willem II marksman, Jizz Hornkamp.

Cooper’s own Ronaldo

With veteran ace Lewis Grabban out the door after a prolific four-year stint at the City Ground – where he netted 55 goals in 147 games in all competitions – Cooper and co appear keen to fill the void with further additions, with Awoniyi’s arrival alone seemingly not enough this summer.

In Adams, the two-time European champions would be bringing in a ready-made Premier League player who has already proven his worth in the top flight, having scored 20 goals and provided ten assists in 96 league appearances at his current side over the past three seasons since arriving from Birmingham City in 2019.

Prior to that, the £16.2m-rated man had also been in sparkling form at St Andrews, notably firing in 22 goals in 46 appearances during his final campaign for the Championship side during the 2018/19 season.

Such dynamic, ruthless displays during his time with the Blues unsurprisingly caught the attention of his current side, while he has since gone on to become a key figure at international level, netting six goals in 19 appearances for Steve Clarke’s side.

Those of a Forest persuasion will also be interested to learn that the “exciting” £52k-per week gem, as described by David Hughes, has even earned comparisons to Brazilian icon Ronaldo from former Ilkeston teammate Matt Baker, who praised him for his “raw ability” during his days at non-league level.

Indeed, it’s clear to see where that comparison comes from with the pair both natural numbers 9s of stocky nature.

Of course, that is some claim considering the immense career that the now-retired ace enjoyed at the elite level, enjoying prolific spells at some of Europe’s top clubs, including scoring 103 goals in 176 games for Real Madrid, having previously netted 47 goals in just 49 games at La Liga rivals Barcelona.

Stan Collymore - Nottingham Forest

Who did Forest sign Stan Collymore from in 1993?

A World Cup winner with Selecao,‘ Il Fenomeno’ – as he was affectionately known – plundered a stunning haul of 62 goals in 98 games for his country, with such impressive career statistics potentially having been even better were it not for injury.

While there is no suggestion that Adams is set to reach such heights, it is a market of his talent that his name has even been mentioned in the same breath as the former Inter Milan superstar, with the Leicester-born gem’s dynamic and ruthless attacking displays seemingly what has sparked such comparisons.

To have his own Ronaldo on his hands would undoubtedly be a hugely exciting prospect for Cooper.
