Nottingham Forest need Morgan Gibbs-White

Nottingham Forest have already had three bids rejected for Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, and now an update has emerged from a reliable source on the club’s chances of getting the deal over the line before the transfer window shuts.

What’s the latest?

According to The Athletic’s football correspondent David Ornstein, Nottingham Forest’s deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Gibbs-White could “still happen” this summer.

Ornstein tweeted:

“Nottingham Forest bid for Morgan Gibbs-White £25m+10m. NFFC said final offer & WWFC rejected but deal not dead. Club told he won’t even discuss new contract (2024). If replacement found, move may still happen.”

Cooper needs him

Forest made their debut in the Premier League following a 23-year exile from the top flight but unfortunately, the Reds weren’t able to make a dream start, losing 2-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Despite the result, the team did show resilience and were stubborn defensively throughout the first half which helped the side to hold off the Magpies from scoring an early goal, however, when it came to creativity and attacking prowess, the side lacked in both.

Forest had zero shots on target, created zero big chances and only five shots in total over the entire game, something that must drastically improve if the newly-promoted side wants to retain their top-flight status when the season ends.

Who did Forest sign Stan Collymore from in 1993?

Thus, Gibbs-White would make for a perfect signing if they are aiming to inject some extra creative quality in to the side.

He started the Premier League with a defeat too as Wolves lost 2-1 to Leeds United, nevertheless, the young midfielder showed his quality and creative attributes despite the result.

The 22-year-old had 65 touches of the ball, made one key pass, had one shot on target and attempted five crosses and dribbles over the course of the game. That proves that he is keen to get the ball forward and is taking opportunities to provide an attacking threat for his team.

Should Forest break club records to sign Gibbs-White?

It was last season where his dazzling offensive qualities were really seen, however, scoring 12 and assisting nine. If he can rustle up those numbers upon a potential switch to Forest, Cooper’s early attacking problems could well be solved.

It is becoming evident as to why the powers at The City Ground are so keen to sign Gibbs-White and to break club records to achieve that, as his talents in the advanced midfield role could be worth its weight in gold if Forest can improve their attacking play with the £35m rising star in the team.

With that being said, there is no doubt that the Englishman could be a valuable asset to Forest this season, however, the club must act fast to provide Wolves with a bid that will tempt them to part ways before the transfer window closes in a few weeks time.
