Nottingham Forest have secured promotion back into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years and now the club must work to get a team together that can compete in the top flight, with a new update emerging on a transfer target.
Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Middlesbrough right-back and Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence.
Romano tweeted: “Bayern left the race after signing Mazraoui while Tottenham are still interested, but there’s no official bid yet.”
The fact that no official bids have been made followed by an admission from Spence that he would like to be at the club next season will surely delight the supporters of Nottingham Forest ahead of the summer transfer window.
Spence has been a key player since joining on a season-long loan at The City Ground from Middlesbrough, and Steve Cooper is a big fan of the player singing his praises this season for his impactful performances in the team.
Cooper spoke out when Spence won Championship player of the month in March (via Nottingham Forest News):
“We’ve really enjoyed working with him since he joined the club. He has been an important player for us this season and he has really committed to our way of playing.”
The youngster has scored two goals and contributed two assists from his position in the backline, while creating six big chances and making 1 key pass per match.
He’s also impressed in a defensive capacity, making 1.4 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and winning 5.8 duels on average per game, proving that he has been a huge presence for Forest in his 42 appearances in the Championship this season.
With that being said, Spence’s future now hangs in the balance with a number of clubs linked with a move for the player, including Tottenham Hotspur. Middlesbrough have reportedly valued the player at £20m following his successful loan spell.
However, with the promising update from Romano, it seems that Nottingham Forest could be in with a good chance to permanently sign the player this summer.
