Nottingham Forest may have signed 22 new players in the summer ahead of their Premier League return but it hasn't been plain-sailing for the squad as they have had a challenging start to their season.

The Tricky Trees have spent the majority of their campaign so far in the relegation zone following a string of poor performances, however, the side seemingly transformed their form and started to pick up crucial points ahead of the World Cup break.

Steve Cooper's team collected eight points from their last five top-flight outings and the manager will be hoping they can maintain their promising performances when they return to action against Manchester United after Christmas.

If Forest are going to climb the table over the second half of the season they will need to drastically improve their goal-scoring opportunities as they currently have scored the joint-second fewest goals in the Premier League, and a missed opportunity in the summer could now haunt the powers at The City Ground.

The club made a reported £25m bid for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos but it was rejected as the Portuguese club believed he was worth much more than proposed and owing to the player's incredible form this season Benfica were right to keep hold of him.

Over 11 Liga Portugal appearances, Ramos - who was dubbed "talented" by Fabrizio Romano - has scored nine goals, registered one assist and created one big chance, as well as averaging 3.3 shots on goal, one clearance and 3.7 duels won per game.

Not only that, the talented 21-year-old has been capturing the attention of many elite clubs following his performances at the World Cup in Qatar for Portugal over the last few weeks, and last night staked his claim as the Cristiano Ronaldo successor in his national team.

Over his 74-minute performance against Switzerland, Ramos scored three goals, registered one assist and two key passes, as well as making two clearances and winning four duels.

Indeed, Nottingham Forest could try their luck again when the transfer market reopens again next month but they were not alone in their interest in the summer with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United also credited as potential suitors for the talented goal machine.

With that being said, the signing of Ramos may be a farfetched venture for Forest at this point as his valuation is surely only set to increase even more due to his performances.

However, there is no doubt that he would be the perfect addition in the forward line to boost the team's chances of retaining their Premier League status at the end of the season.
