Nottingham Forest's extensive summer of recruitment looks set to continue, amid reports that the newly-promoted side are interested in Willem II striker, Jizz Hornkamp.

What's the word?

As per respected journalist for The Athletic, Daniel Taylor, the Midlands side are believed to be eyeing a move for the 24-year-old this summer, with manager Steve Cooper plotting further forward additions despite having already secured the club record capture of Taiwo Awoniyi.

Writing on Twitter about Forest's interest in the Dutchman, the club insider stated: "Some transfer news: Nottingham Forest want Dutch striker Jizz Hornkamp from Willem II. He’s 24, decent scoring ratio and once scored four in 34 minutes for previous club. Talks underway and, if all goes well, would be 13th signing of summer for #NFFC".

In his attached piece for The Athletic, Taylor revealed that the 6-foot menace is one of 'several targets identified' by the Premier League outfit in their bid to further strengthen their attack, with his potential arrival set to add to the 12 new faces who have already come through the door in the current window.

Grabban heir

As Taylor also alluded to in that report, the club's desire for a new striking addition has also been heightened by the departure of veteran ace Lewis Grabban, with the 34-year-old opting to call time on his four-year spell at the City Ground after shunning an offer of a contract extension.

The Croydon-born marksman had proven a prolific figure for the two-time European champions since his £6m arrival from Bournemouth in 2018, having scored 55 goals in 147 games in all competitions in total, while finishing as the club's top scorer in three of the past four seasons.

Despite a reduced role last term due to injury - as he started just 23 Championship games - the career journeyman still managed to chip in with 13 goals across all fronts, having also captained the club of late.

His departure - as well as that of former loanee Keinan Davis - has ensured that a new acquisition is required to add increased depth to Cooper's ranks, with Hornkamp potentially the man to help fill what is a sizeable void.

The £585k-rated man has proven himself a reliable goalscorer in Holland in recent years, bagging 31 senior goals. He notably netted four times in just 13 games at the back end of last season after joining Willem in January, albeit while failing to keep the club in the Eredivisie.

Prior to that, the De Rijp-born star had netted 25 goals and provided eight assists in just 54 games at former club Den Bosch in the Dutch second tier, notably scoring four goals in just 34 minutes in a 4-4 draw with Excelsior back in January 2021 - as Taylor revealed.

The one-time Heerenveen man has seemingly shown himself to be a deadly presence in front of goal, with such ruthlessness making him the ideal man to step into Grabban's shoes this season.
