Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Houssem Aouar over the last few weeks, and a new update has emerged regarding the club's pursuit to get a deal done for the player in the remaining two weeks of the transfer window.

What's the latest?

According to French news outlet RMC Sport, the Reds have reached a total agreement with Lyon, Aouar and his representatives.

As per the report, Forest have tempted the player to come to the City Ground with the prospect of playing Premier League football this season.

It could be a "massive signing"

Despite Forest already signing a multitude of new midfielders this summer, there is no doubt that Aouar would add plenty of quality and talent into that area of the pitch for the Reds over the coming season.

The 24-year-old has been highly impressive and gone from strength to strength at Lyon over the previous campaign, offering reliability, consistency and versatility to the team.

Across 36 league appearances last season, Aouar provided a huge attacking threat as he scored six goals, delivered four assists and created eight big chances, along with making 1.1 key passes and taking 2.1 shots per game and successfully completing 54% of his dribble attempts.

In terms of his defensive attributes, the midfielder was also dominant in holding off opponents from building play with 4.5 duels won and 1.3 tackles completed per game, a pass completion rate of 93% and successful in completing the majority of his long balls too (68%).

Furthermore, he impressively ranked in the top 1% of his positional peers in the top five European leagues for pass completion, proving that he could be a really valuable asset to Cooper in his pursuit to retain Forest's Premier League status into next season if this transfer is completed.

The potential of this move has attracted lots of conversation on social media, with Forest reporter and journalist Ethan Lamb claiming that a deal for Aouar would be a "massive signing" for the club.

Indeed, if Forest could complete a deal for the 24-year-old and make him their 16th signing of the summer transfer window, it would be the perfect way to further enhance their squad at the City Ground amid their top-flight challenge.
