Nottingham Forest have made a number of new signings this summer but it is reported they are still on the lookout for another midfielder, and Steve Cooper has now been given the green light to secure one potential transfer target.

What's the latest?

According to Football Insider, Manchester City have decided that James McAtee can go on loan to another club this summer.

As per the report, it is claimed by sources that, due to game-time being limited at the Etihad Stadium, the 19-year-old is unlikely to feature often, and a loan move could be a great opportunity for the youngster to gain some much-needed first-team football and Premier League experience.

Earlier this week, Forest were named as one of the clubs interested in signing the midfielder this summer.

It would be a big coup

Forest have put everything into their transfer window ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League next weekend, with 11 signings already secured, and McAtee could be the cherry on top of a fantastic summer for the Reds if they can secure a deal with Man City.

The 19-year-old wonderkid, who was dubbed "outstanding" by journalist Jonathan Smith, has been capturing the attention of the football world since Pep Guardiola gave him his Premier League debut last season in a win over Everton, which was followed up with a Champions League debut in March this year.

McAtee has risen through the ranks of the City academy and already has 44 goals in his youth career. Amid making appearances in Guardiola's senior squad, the young midfielder was the joint-top scorer in Premier League 2 last season with 18 goals in 23 appearances, with one goal contribution every 79 minutes.

It is clear that the promising player is ready for the next step in his career, and gaining regular Premier League experience would be highly advantageous to the youngster, something that Cooper has already proven that he can provide to young players at Forest.

Manchester United's young midfielder James Garner thrived when he was sent on loan to the City Ground last season, playing an important role in the team which has seen him become one of the most talked-about young stars in the country, and McAtee could be the next player tow hom Cooper gives that platform.

With that in mind, the signing of McAtee would not only give the youngster an opportunity to play at the highest level on a regular basis, but could be the perfect solution in Cooper's mission to add another midfielder to the squad this summer.
