Nottingham Forest miss out on Michy Batshuayi

Nottingham Forest made a late move for Michy Batshuayi on Deadline Day, however, were unable to close a deal before the transfer window slammed shut at 11pm.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the newly-promoted Premier League side were unable to complete a deal for the Chelsea striker after it “collapsed” at the last minute.

Romano tweeted late last night:

“Nottingham Forest update: Aurier and Bade deals are signed and will be announced soon, done. #NFFC #DeadlineDay”

“Michy Batshuayi deal collapsed as documents were not sent in time.”

Rare summer disaster

Nottingham Forest have had no trouble building a squad they believe can compete in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship last season making an astonishing 21 signings this summer, but the failure to secure the signing of Batshuayi could be considered a rare summer disaster for Steve Cooper.

The Chelsea striker would have been the perfect addition to strengthen the Forest front line even further and improve their goal threat over the Premier League campaign ahead.

Forest have had a good start to their campaign in the top flight currently sitting in 15th in the Premier League, but after losing their last two games Cooper was clearly keen to add some more depth to his attacking options.

Who did Forest sign Stan Collymore from in 1993?

Despite having limited game time at Chelsea, Batshuayi has managed to score 142 goals and deliver 39 assists over his career so far, spending last season on loan with Turkish side Besiktas.

The 28-year-old Belgian goal machine scored 14 goals, delivered three assists and created two big chances, taking three shots and winning 3.8 duels per game, as well as successfully completing the majority of his duels (56%) too over 33 appearances.

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard lavished praise on the striker following his performances for the club back in 2019:

“Michy has been really good for us this season with his attitude and professionalism in training. It’s not easy when another striker is scoring and you’re not getting involved much. Every time he’s started in the cup games, every time he’s come on, he’s shown stuff.”

Are you disappointed Forest didn't sign Batshuayi?

Yes

No

With that being said, it will be disappointing for Forest that they couldn’t secure a deal for Batshuayi, but with such a high number of new players joining the side Cooper should have enough in his squad to comfortably compete to retain the club’s top flight status this season.
