Nottingham Forest and Djed Spence have so far shared a prosperous season in the Championship.
21-year-old Spence, who has been described as “perfect” by Journalist Alan Rzepa, has attracted the attention of north London giants Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, with the latter said to have made their interest known.
Goal have reported that the Gunners want to sign the England U21 starlet, with positive endorsement from Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli fuelling the fire further.
The £4.4k-per-week gem has been a revelation this term and as such, it would be somewhat of a disaster if the flying full-back exited the club for good this summer.
A match against one of his suitors in Arsenal was the perfect indication of his qualities, as he was awarded man of the match for his efforts in keeping Martinelli quiet, as the Reds impressively knocked Arteta’s side out to progress.
According to The Athletic, Spence left a positive impact on the young Brazilian.
When asked about the toughest individual opponent he has faced, Martinelli said: “The guy from Nottingham Forest, Djed Spence, who I played against in the FA Cup.
“He is strong, good on the ball, calm and quick. I was surprised; he is a really good player.”
The emphatic displays from Spence this season have resulted in a bit of a catch-twenty-two for Nottingham Forest.
On one hand, his displays are helping to push the Reds towards potential promotion to the Premier League.
On the other hand, his displays have put him on the radar of the Premier League’s elite, which in turn will make it more difficult for Steve Cooper’s side to sign the 21-year-old permanently.
If Forest fail to gain promotion to the top-flight, then they may fail to retain Spence’s services, an eventuality that will be seen as a huge disappointment and one that leaves supporters gutted.
Upon his loan expiry date, his return to Middlesborough will no doubt be a short one before he is inevitably sold to a Premier League outfit.
