Sky Sports News contributor Flex has claimed that Jesse Lingard will probably leave Nottingham Forest at the end of the current season.

What's the word?

Last summer, the Englishman saw his time with Manchester United come to an end and he opted to join Steve Coopers' newly promoted team, rejecting a possible move to West Ham United.

It's believed that his contract was worth £115,000 per week plus incentives. However, he only signed a one-year deal and so that will expire this summer.

Sadly for the player and his club, the move hasn't really worked out at this stage with Lingard struggling to really show his best in a Forest shirt on a consistent basis.

Now, while talking about the player on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk show, Flex has predicted that the 30-year-old will depart at the end of the season.

Indeed, he said (56:42): "He hasn't hit the heights that he's capable of, [like when] at the likes of West Ham. That was, albeit different surroundings, different environment, different objectives for the team.

“I just think at the end of the season, he will probably move on to somewhere else and try and find a home there for a short while."

Best for all parties?

The fact that Lingard is yet to score or even deliver a single assist in 14 Premier League games for Forest this season shows why he contract is unlikely to be renewed. He hasn't played well in many of these games either. Indeed, as per WhoScored, the 30-year-old has delivered an average rating of 6.20 per game. This is the worst in the team for any Forest player who has managed over 400 minutes in the league this term. Of course, we are still only halfway through the season and Lingard has plenty of time to turn around his form. After all, after a January loan to West Ham in 2021, he managed to rebuild his reputation in less than six months by scoring nine goals in 16 top-flight games. Still, seeing as he's on such big wages, he'll have to drastically change his form if he is to convince Cooper and co to extend his deal. For now, at least, it certainly does feel as though an exit is the most likely outcome this summer.
