In 1906/07, Oldham won the Lancashire Combination title and were elected into the Football League. They earned promotion to the First Division in 1909/10 before achieving a second-place finish in the top-flight in 1914/15, only to be relegated eight years later.
Jimmy Frizzell managed the club between 1970 and 1982 and guided the Latics to the Third Division title in the 1973/74 campaign. Replaced by Joe Royle, he then guided Oldham to the League Cup final in 1990, losing out to Nottingham Forest at Wembley. They then went on to win the Second Division title the following season, which took them back to the top-flight for the first time in 68 years.
Founder members of the Premier League in 1992, the club was relegated two years later and recent financial difficulties have dropped the Latics into the fourth tier of English football. They have also been semi-finalists of the FA Cup on three occasions, the last time doing so in the 1993/94 campaign.
