Arsenal’s £16m signing in 2014 from Southampton has been on the fringes at the Emirates since his arrival, a full season-long loan at Middlesbrough ensured playing time at the highest level but despite a successful spell away it looks as if Calum Chambers could be on his way out of Arsenal.

Online bookmakers Bet Victor have got the young Englishman down as the second favourite (5/2) to join Championship winners Newcastle United ahead of Premier League outfit and Chambers' former club Southampton (4/1).

It would certainly make sense for both parties if Chambers were to leave  North London, Arsenal could recoup some, if not all of the transfer fee paid in 2014 to Southampton.

The England U21 international could become an important individual in the coming years playing for another team, the added pressure playing for a club the size of Arsenal could be detrimental to his development and for this reason alone he should be seeking a permanent move away from Arsenal this summer.

Chambers has made 64 appearances since leaving St. Mary’s, going on to score four goals in that time as a centre-half for Arsenal and Middlesbrough.

Chambers is currently starting for the England U21 squad at the European U21 Championships in Poland and is currently getting all the playing time a young player requires.

Given the circumstances of his situation, it would be wise if the former Saint moved on to guaranteed playing time, which he will have a much higher chance of in Tyneside or Merseyside.
