5 things last night’s Europa League action taught us!

1 – Liverpool and Europe are currently as compatible as a toaster in water.

I was one of the people who sat through Liverpool’s match against Urinal whatever their called and found that the highlight of the match was the dummy by Jamie Carragher which sent the opposition striker completely the wrong way. Now, without taking too much away from the skill, if Jamie Carragher is the highlight of a match, then that speaks volumes in itself. Oh, and also the fact that Benitez FINALLY played Pacheco and saw what he could have done if he had played him ahead of N’gog for the whole season.

2 – Shooting for the most ridiculous places does sometimes work. Check out YouTube for Vederson’s goal for Fenerbahce against Lille as proof!

3 – The Europa League, as much as it has been criticised, still pulls out some very good games. Ajax v Juventus is a clash between two all-time giants and both Standard Liege and Panathinaikos scored two goals in the last 10 minutes to win their respective ties 3-2. Good viewing in any league!

4 -Away wins are certainly not easy. Out of the 16 ties, just 2 resulted in away wins. Despite teams like Valenica, Wolfsburg, Shaktar, Benfica, PSV and Roma all being away, it was just Juventus and Marseille who managed to win. There were 10 home wins, and 4 draws to round it up.

5 – Fulham are GOOD! Roy Hodgson’s men beat the holder’s in a tie that they were not even considered to be capable of winning. I hope this finally shows people that they are a fairly decent team. If they could sort out their away form in the league then they would be much higher up. Unfortunately, a one goal lead might not be enough to take to sub-zero Ukraine.
