Rock Gods Noel Gallagher and Serge Pizzorno confirmed their status as ‘supreme beings’ by engineering fate and setting up their dream FA Cup tie. Manchester City fan Gallagher, of Oasis fame, and die-hard Leicester City supporter Pizzorno, the creative force behind Kasabian, were stunned when their fantasy fixture became a reality. The creative pair were at Wembley to make the draw for the Third Round and the song-writing duo could not have written a better version of events.
The Kasabian axe-man, who regularly performs in front of tens of thousands of fans, admitted that the coincidence shredded his already jangling nerves.
“I was really nervous before the draw,” he said. “I kept having visions that I was going to drop the bag and have to chase all the balls around the floor!
“Once I made that draw (Leicester City v Manchester City) I completely lost it, I don’t remember pulling the next 10 balls out, I didn’t know what was going on.”
“It was psychedelic,” he said. “I can’t believe it!”
Even the effortlessly cool Noel Gallagher was unnerved by the luck of the draw although the show’s practice run should have given an indication that FA Cup magic was well and truly in the air. Gallagher had said before the main-event:
“23 is City and Leicester City are 21 so they are important numbers. I pulled out City as my first ball in the rehearsals, which was weird.
“For as long as I have known Serge our teams have never played each other so I would like go to Leicester City.”
The man behind over a decades worth of generation defining anthems, like Slide Away and Live Forever, probably thought he had seen it all on his tours with Britain’s biggest band but even he was stunned by his Nostradamus-like prediction.
“What where the odds on that, its unbelievable! I am blown away by that, when I turned the ball around I nearly dropped it.
“I was more nervous after that then when I walked out on stage here at Wembley. The odds were astronomical.”
The Mancunian wordsmith’s perfect tie might end up landing him in hot water, as it seems that not everyone in the Gallagher household will be going to the January clash.
“My Mrs is going to be furious because we are supposed to be going to South Africa on holiday when the game is on so I might be turning up a bit late to the airport.”
Sounds like Gallagher is still a dedicated football fan despite being ‘Married With Children’.
