The Manchester derbies are the some of the most anticipated Premier League fixtures of the season. Why? Because the rivalry between the two teams is so incredibly real and intense that not only does it make for great football, but you can almost feel the tension between the fans through the TV screen.
It’s no secret that Manchester United are not playing to their full-potential this season, or maybe they are and, without being spoon-fed by Sir Alex, 9th position is where they deserve to be. I’m sure this is filling City fans with great joy, although they are only sitting in 5th, but at least they are within arm’s reach of the top four.
The first encounter the two teams had this season was incredible with City bringing home a 4-1 win at Etihad – imagine if they had both been ‘at home’ during that match, imagine if these historic rivals shared a stadium! One word: disaster. Police are already on high alert during the derbies, but at least United fans could leave knowing that they would not have to return and re-live the memories at City’s ground until next season and next time they would be on their own home turf. There are many United and City fans that would struggle to shake hands with one another, let alone share their beloved home ground with their bitter enemies.
You can say it in whatever language you like but I think it’s fair to say ‘Seria um caos se o Manchester City e o Manchester United partilhassem o estádio!’ (It would be chaos if Manchester City and Manchester United shared a stadium!)
