Football FanCast has teamed up with IM Scouting to promote their NEW feature the ‘Performance of the Day’. This weekend the award went to Alex Song who turned in an excellent display at the Emirates last night.
Defensive midfielder, Alexandre Song , performed well for Arsenal as they breezed past Shakhtar Donetsk. The Gunners overwhelmed the Ukrainians 5-1 with Shakhtar struggling to cope with Arsenal’s flowing attack.
The Cameroon international scored the opening goal for Arsenal with a clever flick and also provided an assist.
Arsenal are currently undefeated in the Champions League and are comfortable leaders of Group H. They are the top scorers in the Champions League so far with 14 goals and have conceded only twice.
23-year-old Song has a record of two goals and one assist so far for Arsenal this season, although his contribution cannot be measured only by statistics.
He is a strong presence in the Arsenal midfield and is adept at winning the ball from the opposition with his tough tackling and clever reading of the game.
However, Song has more to his game than physical presence and his short-ball distribution is important in order for Arsene Wenger’s side to mount attacks.
Song’s endless amount of energy has made him an important part of Wenger’s side over the last two seasons and he looks set to remain an important component this term too.
