Robert Pires. It is a name that will resonate among many football fans, especially those of a decade ago. The unbeatable Arsenal team included many stars, one of which was the French winger. Since then, many years have passed, and the now 39 year-old is retired and enjoying a relaxing life in Greece.
It is delightful then, to here the story that has emerged recently, of his appearance back on a football field. Sitting in the stands, he watched Storm Rafina play AO Mykonos in a friendly match, simply minding his own business. Home side Storm Rafina were trailing 2-1 at Half Time, and asked the ex-international if he fancied a run out.
To everyone’s excitement, Pires took it upon himself to grace the football pitch once more, and his impact could not have been any more influential. Good build up play, followed by a finesse shot in the corner gave Pires a goal and an equaliser. He swiftly followed this up with a accurate through ball, allowing a fellow teammate to latch on to the end and grab the winner. 3-2 to Storm Rafina, One goal, One assist to Pires. Just one last question… Arsene, one more signing?
