Rafa should take advantage of fire sale and bag Nadir

Nadir_BelhadjYou don’t need a weatherman to tell you when it is raining and you certainly don’t have to be brain of Britain to realise that some fiscal turbulence on the South Coast is going to lead to a fire sale of sorts as the tax man comes calling. There are plenty of bargains to be had and one that Rafa should be vying to get his hands on is a certain Algerian full back.

Nadir Belhadj is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League and whether he is playing left back or further forward on the left wing the Pompey ace is extremely assured, equally effective and it amazes me how he has been used so sparingly, especially given the torrid time he gave us in our 2-0 defeat a few weeks back. He kept control of Glen Johnson all game and not to mention scored a superb opener past Pepe Reina.

Our problems left side are well documented and while Insua certainly has potential, I still think that he is a little green to be a regular and while I have always been prepared to show patience with Aurelio, he is far too injury prone to be relied upon to play on a regular basis, in fact I actually wonder whether Rafa will be looking to cash in on him in January, given that he is out of contract at the end of the season. Belhadj would not only provide us stability in defence, but like Johnson he can cause a whole matter of problems going forward and could bring some natural width to the team on the left hand side; he is also likely to be cheap and more than likely to be in keeping with Rafa’s tight budget in January.

Would Belhadj be a welcome addition at Anfield?
