Why Tottenham should give deal a wide berth

bellamyFootball FanCast columnist Roy James thinks that Tottenham should give Bellamy a wide berth.

I may well be mistaken but I believe it was this time last year that the rumours first started to break that Tottenham were interested in signing Craig Bellamy. Twelve months on and my view hasn’t changed and this is deal that we should give a wide berth to.

I understand Harry’s reasons at the time for wanting him and perhaps we needed a player that had a bit of bite and someone that can fire a few rockets up his teammates, but we have moved on as a football club since and the current Tottenham dressing room appears to be one with harmony within and doesn’t have any characters that has the potential to upset it.

Craig Bellamy is an excellent player don’t get me wrong and he has more than proved his capabilities at City this season, but the negatives of the player far outweigh the positives. As well as his disruptive nature, his proneness to injuries represents far too much of a gamble and the last thing we need is a King Mk II where he has to train on his own and is one bad challenge away from another lay-off. I would also question as to whether he would be happy to sit there playing second fiddle to Jermain Defoe because let’s be honest with the likes of Kranjcar and Modric we would hardly need him on the left hand side. I know some have suggested in other blogs that he represents a better option to Robbie Keane and while that may be true; I still believe that Crouch represents a far better strike partner for Jermain Defoe.

So what is the feeling about Bellamy and would he be a welcome addition to the Lane? Or do you agree with my feeling that he is more trouble than he’s worth?
